Eddie Howe gave a positive update about Alexander Isak’s return of the injury when he was excluded in a week when Anthony Gordon was excluded from the rest of the season for the Carabao Cup final and Lewis Hall.
Newcastle has decided that she will not appeal against Gordon’s three-game ban on the red card, which he received last weekend in the FA Cup defeat, while confirmed that the left back hall was off due to a foot injury from the rest of the campaign. Sven Botman has been excluded with a knee problem for eight weeks.
It is a big blow for Newcastle before being over on Sunday, March 16 in Wembley Liverpool in the Carabao Cup final, but Howe hopes that the top scorer Isak will be fit for the Premier League game against West Ham on Monday evening. Isak was removed before the extension, when Newcastle fell against Brighton from the FA Cup after missing the defeat in Liverpool due to a calf injury.
“He’s fine,” said Howe.
Howe explained that there was “no chance” to lift Gordon’s suspension, with the wing player being sent by Brighton because of Jan Paul van Hecke and struck him in the back of his head with two hands.
“We had the feeling that there were not enough reasons [appeal]«, Said Howe. “There was no intention of Anthony. He didn’t want to hurt anyone.
“But you have to look at it and ask yourself whether there is a chance to be successful, and whether there is no chance, what is the meaning of appealing attraction and anthony.”
Howe revealed that everyone in Newcastle for the 20-year-old left-back Hall was “destroyed”, who miss the Carabao Cup final and the chance of playing for England this month with games against Albania and Latvia.
“It’s really disappointing,” he said. “Actually destroyed for him because he was so happy at that moment of the season, since the cup final was a big deal for all players at the moment.
“Lewis also had a possible international experience, and he was simply in a really good shape and played very well. It is a big blow for him and us. The most important thing is now his recovery and ensure that he comes back as well as he is.”
After Botman was also undergoing an operation on his knee, Howe admitted that as a manager Newcastle, he was tried to end her long trophy drought against Liverpool in Wembley.
“It wasn’t the best weeks,” said Howe.
“We still have a very strong squad. We still have a very strong team. We will miss the players we will lose, and that is a big disappointment.
“But it is always the chance of another and we have to look at it. These players I know will support us and hope that we can really cut off.”
