If you are a goalkeeper with the ball in your hands, the referee is the last person you look at.

This was a very important point of Watford goalkeeper Egil Selvik in view of the news of a rule change that will come into force this summer.

Allegations are allowed eight seconds from the moment they catch the ball to release it.

It is an attempt to clamp yourself against what is “game management” or time, as it is known.

There were exams in England, Italy and Malta, and the new rule will be implemented worldwide from Elite to Parks Football until July 1st.

The punishment for a goalkeeper who holds the ball for more than eight seconds will be the concession of a corner, and referee warn the goalkeeper if you have five seconds to release the ball by increasing your arm and starting a visual countdown by hand.

However, Selvik pointed out that he does not see the officials in the heat of a game when he is in possession of the ball.

“When I have the ball that is in my own box, the last person I see is the referee,” he said.

“I’m looking for openings, where are our players where the opposition is, there is still someone behind me, all of these things.

“So how referees deal with it will be interesting to see.

“If you are hard on it, it will be a problem.

“A good referee lets the game flow and make it as easy as possible for us.

“I can’t be negative because it hasn’t started yet, but I’m pretty concerned that it is abused.”

The current law states that if a goalkeeper holds a ball for more than six seconds, an indirect free kick is awarded to the opposition.

However, it is rare, however, that the punishment that seeing goalkeepers collects a ball, fall to the ground and are placed in the everyday place for several seconds – especially at the end of narrow games.

Jordan Pickford turned the “catch, drop and lay” into an art form: Delightful when your team wins, but is annoyed when you annoy the wrong side of a close game.

But are goalkeepers generally time -consuming when they are a game for over 80 minutes and collect around a corner?

“It is a personal situation that I would say,” commented Selvik.

“Usually you see it in the last phases of the game, like when we were 1-0 in Middlesbrough.

“It is difficult, it is hectic, and if you lie down a bit, you can bring your team on the field and then go for a long time.

“So you try to take a few seconds, but I don’t think I will waste as much time as possible.

“But of course there are keepers who get the doing and yellow cards. It is a very personal situation. “

The International Football Association board says that in hundreds of test games only four cases of goalkeepers were punished with the allocation of a corner, even if the rule was used strictly.

“It will be interesting to see how you sort it out,” said Selvik.

“My opinion overall is probably not too much important, but after I have experienced it as a goalkeeper, it seems pretty interesting.

“I don’t feel too positive, but you will try and hopefully you will get it up.

“I think we have a six second year rule, but referees don’t call it and give indirect free kicks.

“Maybe you have to extend the number of seconds to 12 or 15, as this would be easier to manage.”
